U Vessel BASALT
An innovative and sculptural wine decanter designed in collaboration with award winning Sommelier, Dom Robinson. Each decanter is slip cast using ceramic sink trap ‘waste’ and glazed using a recipe developed using only Victorian rock industry by-products, restaurant and studio ‘waste’.
Rocks are the defining commonality in both ceramics and wine. At its most special, wine is the pure expression of place, and for us that means expression of soils. The detail and nuance in great wine is thanks to its geology and the same could be said for ceramic glazes.
MOTHEROCK vessels are the culmination of extensive research and development using undervalued and discarded materials. The glazes in this collection are made using only local sourced, crushed and milled by-products.
Materials: Cast ceramic sink trap ‘waste’, recycled glass and second life basalt glaze
*Due to the nature of the materials each batch of glaze is one of a kind and will have variations in colour and texture which we hope will be embraced in the same way wine varies from vintage to vintage
Dimensions: 24x19x8cm
Lead time: 4-6 weeks
Care instructions: Clean your decanter with baking soda dissolved in hot water. After leaving the mixture some time to work, swirl or gently shake the vessel followed by a good rinse.
